The Josephine County District Attorney’s Office is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Legal Secretary. Duties include a wide variety of legal support to department prosecutors such as drafting and editing of legal documents, transcription of witness interviews and testimony, preparing subpoenas, frequent phone contact with law enforcement and citizens, making travel arrangements, composing letters and performing computerized criminal history checks.
Qualifications: Knowledge of legal terminology and law office procedures, legal forms and documents, English usage and grammar, and general office methods and procedures. Candidates must have the ability to work effectively as a team member with a minimum of supervision, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and interact professionally and courteously with the public and within a law enforcement environment where graphic criminal activity is openly discussed. Must be proficient with computer programs: Word, Excel, E-mail, Internet and Website applications and type 50 wpm.
Requires high school graduation or equivalency, and two years secretarial experience in a legal environment, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above described duties. Preference given to applicants with prior legal experience and the ability to type in excess of 60 wpm. Tests will be given to ascertain applicant's skills. A criminal background check is required and finalists must pass comprehensive drug screening prior to employment.
