The Josephine County Public Works Department is accepting applications for the full-time position of Mechanic. An employee in this position performs a wide variety of maintenance, overhaul and repair functions of gas and diesel vehicles and equipment owned and operated by the County and through contract with other jurisdictions; acts in the capacity of the supervisor in his/her absence; does related work as required.
Requirements: Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, techniques, and tools in repairing, maintaining, and overhauling gas and diesel vehicles, construction equipment, and other machinery. Must have working knowledge of the principles of internal combustion engines, automatic and standard transmissions, differentials, hydraulic units, and all other equipment systems and assemblies. Must also have skills with using the full range of hand and power tools needed in automotive repair. A person in this position must be able to perform manual labor under dirty and uncomfortable conditions. Physical requirements would include frequent bending, walking, twisting, and lifting up to 35 lbs and 75 lbs occasionally.
Qualifications: High School education or equivalent, and a minimum of three years of experience in maintenance, repair, and overhauling of automotive and /or construction equipment, and other machinery; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the specified duties. Must have, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Oregon Commercial Driver License. Certification in diesel mechanics is desirable.
