From 1957 to 1980 Josephine County did not collect a general fund property tax.
From 1981 thru 1994, the tax averaged $0.28 per thousand to support Josephine County general government.
In 1994 the Josephine County tax rate was $0.2521 per thousand dollars of assessed value.
In 1995 a 3-year Library Levy of $1,100,000 was passed and the tax rate for the library levy was $0.3301 per thousand dollars of assessed value. The Josephine County tax rate was $0.2676 for a total tax rate (after timber tax offset) of $0.5787.
In 1996 (second year of the Library Levy), the library levy’s tax rate was $0.3249 and the Josephine County tax rate was $0.2634 for a total tax rate (after timber tax offset) of $0.5845.
When Measure 50 passed in 1997, all taxing districts had to report to the Department of Revenue and the Department calculated the new “permanent rates” based on the then current operating levies of the counties.
