Sheriff
Welcome to the Josephine County Sheriff's Office Website
Hello, I am Sheriff Gil Gilbertson and am pleased to welcome you to our website. This site is designed to keep the citizens of Josephine County informed about what is happening in your Sheriff’s Office.
Since being elected in 2007 as your Sheriff, I have asked more of each and every member of this office. I am very pleased with the commitment each member has shown. We proudly serve our community be demonstrating the highest ethical and moral standards, as well as exceptional public service. From top to bottom, the Sheriff's Office is held accountable for our actions and we strive to work within our community to solve problems of mutual concern.
Our mission is to provide quality public safety services in a professional, ethical and fiscally responsible manner. Our current team of 96 paid employees provides services for operating a Jail, Court Security, Patrol, Detectives, Emergency Management, Search and Rescue, Civil, Records & Communications, Evidence and Administration.
In addition to our paid staff, we manage a team of approximately 250 volunteers including Reserve Deputies, Mounted Posse, Search and Rescue, Emergency Communications, and Crime Prevention. These volunteers donate thousands of hours each year and are the backbone of this office.
We are happy to announce that our non-emergency phone lines (541-474-5123) are now open Monday through Friday until 8:00 PM. January 1, 2010, we anticipate increasing coverage to 7 days a week, until 11:00 PM.
We are also extremely pleased to announce that effective December 1, 2009, the Adult Jail will increase its daily housing capacity from 105 to 140.
As of January 2, 2010, the Sheriff's Office will provide Patrol coverage for 20 hours each day.
All of these changes are possible due to the commitment of the County Budget Committee and Board of Commissioners authorizing an increase in funding that allowed the Sheriff's Office to hire the necessary staff.
We are getting ready to roll-out a monthly Sheriff's Office News article - if you would like to receive this, please send an email to: jocosheriff@co.josephine.or.us and in the subject line type "News." I can also be contacted via email at that same address and always appreciate constructive feedback.
