Mental Health Caseload
The mental health probation officer designee supervises a caseload of those offenders who have severe and persistent mental illness or chronic personality disorders or conditions related to their mental health that are a focus of supervision. The probation officer works closely with local mental health providers and alcohol and drug treatment agencies. Without ongoing treatment and support, the potential for behaviors viewed by the general public as disturbing or frightening may increase, bringing the mentally ill offenders back to the attention of law enforcement agencies resulting in future arrests. The goal of this specialized caseload is to reduce recidivism and assist the mentally ill offender with mental health services.
The mental health probation officer is currently assigned as a team member of the Josephine County Mental Health Court Program. Together the Mental Health Court team work to provide coordination of services between the different agencies to serve and manage these challenging offenders.
